Last week at Gainsborough…
Summer Fair Fun, Friendship and a Full on Water Fight!
Thank you to our school community for taking time to prepare and come together and celebrate the end of the school year together. A huge thank you to our FRoG’s team, the office and admin team for organising the raffle, to Tricia and Vic for their delicious food and finally to Charlotte for her incredible organisation, and to DJ Debs for hosting the evening! Thank you Gainsborough community.
Reception Wrens Assembly
Families were treated to a wonderful ‘first’ this week, Wrens class first sharing assembly! The children retold the story ‘No Dinner!’ They had learnt the story and retold it using makaton signs. They were brilliant! Even with a technical hitch- no music system- they sang their class song beautifully and showed us all they are ready for Year 1! well done Wrens.
Year 5 Trip to
Year 5 visited the British Museum to be historical investigators and research artefacts from the Ancient Greeks! The children also revisited the Rosetta Stone, as they had learnt about it in their Ancient Egyptian topic, and still had some questions as to whether it should be in the British Museum or returned to Egypt…
Year 4 Trip to
Year visited the Natural History Museum this week and spent their time looking at research about earthquakes and volcanoes. They rode the elevator into the Earth’s core and stood in the earthquake simulation. They enjoyed the trip and shared how it had made some of their learning in class come to life!
Keeping Healthy
Each half term we focus on a different Gainsborough Keep: kind, connected, safe, healthy, green or giving. This half term we are looking at Keep Healthy. We are focusing on healthy eating this half term. Children will get the opportunity to try new herbs and vegetables in an attempt to encourage us all to make healthier choices. We will also look at what healthy endings look like as we say goodbye to this academic year.
Reader of the Week
Each week we will award one child from Years 1-6 with a new book, as the Reader of the Week. The award is for commitment, reading progress, engagement or sharing their love for reading. Please support your child with reading at home! After all, reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.

Attendance at Gainsborough
We are working hard to ensure good attendance at Gainsborough. To help you understand the importance in having good school attendance, we will be informing you about how we teach cycles of learning at Gainsborough in each week’s newsletter. We want families to understand the impact of absence on well being, the progress in subjects, friendships and the work load absence has on the school work force. We are doing this to help families be more mindful about taking days of school.
The last few days of term include some really important parts of the school year. This is a time when children are able to reflect and celebrate their learning, there are awards and certificates and children are able to reflect on their achievements. It is also a time when we ensure transition work can be undertaken. New staff members are in school over the last 3 days and have time to get to the know the children. Please ensure your child attends all 3 days of the last week of term.
