Learning Logs are given out at the start of each school year to children in years 1-6. These must be brought to school every day and taken home every night.
Children are expected to read their level reading book for 20 minutes every night. In addition, class teachers will set weekly homework in Writing and Maths. Writing homework is based on a whole school text or event. All children have a similar task adapted to their level so that families can support siblings at home and discuss the homework. Maths homework reinforces learning that has taken place in the classroom during the week.
All homework will be given out on Fridays and should be returned the following Tuesday. Children should record the following information in their reading logs:
Title, author and page number of the books they are reading
Several sentences about what they have read
Please contact the class teacher if your child does not seem to be bringing homework home.
New Weekly Whole School Writing Tasks
Each week we will link the writing in school with our whole school theme. You can do the work at home if you cannot bring your child to school. You can teach these lessons at home using a literacy shed video and the learning intention and success criteria we give you. There is a Year 1 and 2 lesson sequence and a Year 4,5,6 lesson sequence to give guidance. Your child will recognise the layout of the sequence and should be able to follow it to produce a piece of writing. Please email the children’s work to email@example.com and teachers will mark and give feedback. We will also share the best pieces of work on the school website and Instagram.
