Last week at Gainsborough…
End of Year Homework
As we start to say goodbye to our Year 6 pupils we inevitably also say goodbye to some families and Nursery children, some staff and agency staff who have spent this year at Gainsborough. Please see your child’s report letter next week for details on all leavers and new starters. Please make time to thank staff who have supported your children and wish our leavers well. The children are being asked to write thank you letters to staff for their support this year. This means more to teachers than a gift does so please support them this week at home.
Parents in Class – Science
Families in Years 1 -6 joined us for parents in class. This event is designed for families to come into class and spend time with their children. The children complete some activities and show case what they have been learning to families. These sessions are not lessons. This week the children showed off their newly acquired science knowledge. Thank you to all of the families who came to spend time in classes.
Keeping Healthy
Each half term we focus on a different Gainsborough Keep: kind, connected, safe, healthy, green or giving. This half term we are looking at Keep Healthy. We are focusing on healthy eating this half term. Children will get the opportunity to try new herbs and vegetables in an attempt to encourage us all to make healthier choices. We will also look at what healthy endings look like as we say goodbye to this academic year.
Reader of the Week
Each week we will award one child from Years 1-6 with a new book, as the Reader of the Week. The award is for commitment, reading progress, engagement or sharing their love for reading. Please support your child with reading at home! After all, reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.

Attendance at Gainsborough
We are working hard to ensure good attendance at Gainsborough. To help you understand the importance in having good school attendance, we will be informing you about how we teach cycles of learning at Gainsborough in each week’s newsletter. We want families to understand the impact of absence on well being, the progress in subjects, friendships and the work load absence has on the school work force. We are doing this to help families be more mindful about taking days off.
All families taking holidays in term time will receive a warning letter this term. The letter marks a moment in time and outlines the next stage in the attendance procedures for those taking children out of school in term time for holidays. The school does not want to implement a fining system but due to the amount of families taking term holidays we are now considering this option. All holidays must be taken out of term time.
