This week at Gainsborough…
Summer 2…
End of term thank you to children, families and staff
What a wonderful year for Gainsborough! We have seen our school population grow, our curriculum develop and our provision improve in so many ways. I am particularly proud of the our improved DT curriculum and all of the wonderful cooking our students have taken part in this year, making the most of our growing and cooking facilities at Gainsborough. I am also particularly proud of how the school has welcomed new families this year, the kindness and warmth shown by our pupils when new children have joined their classes is incredible. New families have reported how supported they feel, how much their children enjoy the school and how happy they are at Gainsborough, and that means we are all doing a very good job! We have enjoyed wonderful partnerships with the Yard, British cycling and The Loop this year and we hope to continue and extend these over the coming year.
Next academic year we will be focusing on:
Improving school punctuality and attendance
Launching a school food initiative
Striving towards being a more sustainable organisation
And of course we hope to improve our academic outcomes for pupils at statutory checkpoints.
We wish everyone well over the summer holidays and we look forward to seeing children back on the following dates:
Years 1 -6 children Tuesday 2nd September
Preschool Tuesday 2nd September
Nursery and Reception Monday 8th September
Nursery Olympic Park Trip
Nursery Swans and Geese visited the Olympic park on Monday 14th July as an end of year reward trip. The children had a wonderful time and it was so great to see so many families and children celebrating a great year. The children’s listening, friendship and behaviour were exceptional throughout- well done Nursery!
Nursery Graduation
We enjoyed a short and sweet graduation ceremony on Wednesday 16th July to celebrate the end of Nursery in a graduation ceremony. The children accepted their end of year certificates, sang a song and said thank you to teachers, families and each other for a fantastic, fun filled year! Well done nursery team, a great end to a great year.
Year 6 Kench Hill
Year 6 returned safe and sound on Friday from the Kench Hill Centre in Kent. They embraced every moment of their last adventure as a class together! They told us tales of river walks, beach combing, planting and growing, team building and memory making which we hope will last a lifetime. Well done Year 6 Magpies. We wish you well in the next stage of your school career! We are always grateful to the incredible staff at Gainsborough who attend Kench Hill with the children and make it possible. Thank you Mr Furling, Ms Muganga and Mr Little for going that extra mile.
End of Year Reports Home
All reports were emailed home and hard copy was also sent home to parents last week. If there are any issues with your child’s report please speak to a member of school staff.

Safeguarding During School Closures
If you have a concern about a child over the school closure period please contact the following services:
If you’re worried about a child or young person
If you feel a child is at immediate risk of harm, it is important to consider whether you need to call the Police on 999 to report your concerns, so that they can take immediate action to keep a child safe where needed.
Members of the public
To discuss your worries with a social worker, please phone Hackney Children and Families Services Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) on 020 8356 5500 or email MASH@hackney.gov.uk
- the telephone line is open between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday only, excluding bank holidays
- outside of office hours, if your concerns are urgent, you can call our Emergency Duty Team on 020 8356 2710
Professionals
If a case is already allocated within Hackney Children and Families Services, please contact the child’s allocated unit to discuss your concerns.
If you are worried about a child who is not open to Hackney Children and Families Services, where you feel your concern is urgent and you need to speak to a social worker to agree a plan of action today, please call MASH on 020 8356 5500 or email MASH@hackney.gov.uk:
- the phone line is open 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays
- outside of these hours, please contact the Emergency Duty Team on 020 8356 2710
If you’re unsure about what support a child and family needs, or whether you should make a referral to MASH, please call MASH and ask for a consultation with a member of the team.
How does the consultation line work?
- it’s for professionals only
- for cases that are not already open to the Council’s service
- you must have consulted your designated safeguarding lead first
- you will need to use the usual MASH number – 020 8356 5500 – and ask for a consultation
- experienced members of staff from MASH will respond
- MASH will listen to your concerns and offer advice and guidance about the most appropriate next steps – their advice may include:
- a request for you to have further conversations with the child and family about the concerns and – with their consent – other members of the family’s network
- a written referral to MASH
- a referral to another service
MASH will keep a log of calls to monitor the consultation lines use, but calls will not be recorded on our files. It is important that anyone contactingMASH make their own agency records of discussions.
Request for support form
Complete a request for support form if you wish to request targeted early help or statutory social work support for a family.
We’ll only review information submitted by the form during office hours.
You should discuss all requests with parents/carers (and children and young people where age appropriate) before submitting the form, unless there is a clear concern that doing so would present an immediate risk to a child’s safety. So, make sure you have parental consent, or enough justification for overriding consent, before completing the form.
We make all decisions around the most appropriate next steps for a child and family in line with the Hackney Child Wellbeing Framework (PDF 392kb).
