This week at Gainsborough…
Summer 2…
Hackney Music Festival
We have taken part in Hackney Music Service’s annual music festival. Children from Reception to Year 5 visited the Round Chapel this week to sing selected songs, and take part in a shared singing event along with over 12 other Hackney Primary Schools. Gainsborough sang their hearts out and the quality of our singing was commented upon by parents and other professionals at the event. Well done Gainsborough, you represented us very well and made us proud!
Year 6 Swimming
Well done Year 6 pupils on completing a range of swimming achievements this week at the Aquatics Centre. The staff who have supported you, daily over this 2 week period, have reported such determination and resilience from children who maybe started the swimming sessions with less confidence. They were incredibly impressed with how much progress you have made at all levels and I am pleased to say the entire class can swim! Well done Year 6 Magpies, you really are amazing.
Deputy Mayor Bramble and Councilor Sizer Visit to Gainsborough
We welcomed Deputy Mayor Bramble and Councilor Sizer this week to view our Children’s Centre, Preschool and our school! Nanette and Aston, from Year 6, read their letters to our local MP to ask for a more equitable outlook for refugee children, and they read a very moving piece of writing inspired by Alem’s story from the book Refugee Boy, by Benjamin Zephaniah (please see our school instagram to read these incredible pieces of writing). Fatima and Elias, from Year 2, showed our local council members around and it was amazing to hear how proud they were of the Aviary, art room, polytunnel food growing project, the community kitchen and our wonderful classrooms.

Families will also receive an introduction letter with a picture of the adults working in the room, the room layout and other information to help reduce any anxieties about the new year. Our new SENDCO will also be on site and on the gate to meet parents in the coming weeks.
If you have any concerns about transitions please speak to a member of staff and we hope to listen and reduce any worries.
