This week at Gainsborough…
Summer 1
This half term we are focusing on:
As Summer term. Our reflections on our current learning tell us we need to focus on the following:
- Improving the academic achievement in maths, for both children finding maths hard and those who work really efficiently in maths
- Developing our music curriculum and wider music offer for children
- Developing a play strategy for children and families
- Applying the teaching and learning policy to all areas of the curriculum
- Developing the application of SCERTS at Gainsborough to support children with communication and language needs
Walk to School Week at Gainsborough
Last week, 18th-22nd May, was walk to school week. Children across the country took part in a range of walk to school initiatives. We went on several walks across the week, during assembly time, to engage the children in the importance of walking, share different purposes for walking and engage them with the outdoors. We live in a part of London with incredible access to nature and walking opportunities and we want our children to love these spaces and engage with them whenever possible. The children really enjoyed walking to Wick Woodland with a very simple nature trail. Well done Gainsborough, a great effort for Walk to School Week.
Gainsborough Food Co-Op Opportunity
Saul joined us at Gainsborough on Wednesday last week to plan how the co op will run, where we might need volunteers, and agree on the best days for distribution. Thank you to the families who attended. Further information will come out via email, watch this space. Please email admin@gainsborough.hackney.sch.uk to join the co-op.

Gainsborough’s Got Talent!
Children from Years 1-6 to performed in Gainsborough’s version of Britain’s Got Talent. 5 acts per year group were selected by class teachers to go through to a school show. Children performed with so much confidence and passion, it was so fun to watch. Ms Lewis said she cannot wait to run the event again and it was definitely her favourite family event so far this year! Well done to all of the acts that took part, Gainsborough really is full of talent!
Gainsborough Play Strategy
We are collecting dressing up clothes this week: costumes, hats, bags, scarves, traditional dress, jackets and coats. We are hoping to provide a rail for children to access dressing up clothes during lunchtime. We would also welcome 2 clothes rails!
TT Rockstars Battle
Children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 were challenged to a TT Rockstars battle against James from Year 6. James has become very hard to beat in our TT Rockstars battles. This week James singlehandedly beat the children of Gainsborough and the staff, despite an attempt to fiddle the results by one eager staff member James still won. We are giving Gainsborough one last chance to beat James and then we will have to start to put sanctions in place for James, as he is just impossible to beat. Will anyone be able to beat James?
Reader of the Week
Each week we will award one child from Years 1-6 with a new book, as the Reader of the Week. The award is for commitment, reading progress, engagement or sharing their love for reading. Please support your child with reading at home! After all, reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.
