This week at Gainsborough…
Summer 1…
Year 4 Ragged School Trip
This week Year 4 visited the Ragged School museum as part of their history topic on Victorians. The children spent the day in a Victorian classroom, with the cane, dunces hat and learnt how to sit with a straight back! They fed back that school was definitely more enjoyable these days and more fun!
FRoG’s (Friends of Gainsborough) Lolly Sales
Thank you for supporting our school fund raiser by buying our ice lollies. We will be selling ice lollies every week throughout the Summer term to raise money for new playground equipment. We have been asked to locate banana, raspberry and mango ice lollies- watch this space.
Lights off!
This week we tracked if our classroom lights were on throughout the day. We want to save electricity and reduce our carbon footprint, so we are trying to keep our lights off. In years 1 -6, from 8.45-3.30pm we tracked that only one class had their lights on for a total of 20 minutes! We have all agreed that we do not need to keep our lights on in our classrooms in the summer months and we will be checking across the school that our lights are off as much as possible!
Reader of the Week
Each week we will award one child from Years 1-6 with a new book, as the Reader of the Week. The award is for commitment, reading progress, engagement or sharing their love for reading. Please support your child with reading at home! After all, reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.

Gardening Volunteers
We need your help keeping our plants under control! At this time of year we need all hands on deck to ensure our plants are watered, trimmed and the weeds are kept at bay. We struggle to do this currently. We would like families to volunteer to garden with on a Friday when Ana, our Circular Food Economy lead, is with us. The gardening sessions would run for families and children from 3.30-4.30pm, there will be free ice lollies on offer for those who lend a hand!
