This week at Gainsborough…
Spring 2
This half term we will be focusing on:
Improving school punctuality and attendance
Launching a school food initiative
Striving towards being a more sustainable organisation
Improving our academic outcomes for pupils at statutory checkpoints
Eat Club Resumes
We are very fortunate to be working with Eat Club again this term. Eat Club offer cooking sessions to families, engaging in healthy family cooking weekly at Gainsborough. We are looking for 15 people (made of 5-7 families) to cook with us weekly for 5 weeks, the sessions will take place each Friday from 3.45-5pm. The feedback from the first cohort, that took part in the Eat Club sessions, was fantastic, we hope this group will love it as much as well. Please email admin@gainsborough.hackney.sch.uk if you are interested in joining the group this half term.

Coming up at Gainsborough…
World Book Day
Come and join us to celebrate world book day at Gainsborough on Thursday 5th March. Children are invited to dress up as a character from a book. We will spend time reading in classes and also reading with other classes, sharing our favourite stories. At Gainsborough we usually celebrate world book day on a Friday, as with all awareness days and this is easier for families and for timetabling, however Years 1, 5 and 6 are all on pre booked trips on Friday 6th March and therefore we will celebrate on Thursday 5th March. Watch this SPACE for some OUT OF THIS WORLD costumes from the staff team!
DT Week
We will be completing our DT units during week beginning 2nd March. We will be making pop books using sliders, flip-flaps, pulleys and gears to create our pop pages. We will make our books to celebrate world book day and complete them, with our own stories and information, ready for Parents in Class on Friday 27th March.
International Women’s Day
On Monday 2nd March we will celebrate a very special women: Kalpana Chawla. Kalpana Chawla (1962–2003) was a pioneering Indian-American aerospace engineer and NASA astronaut, becoming the first woman of Indian origin in space. She flew on two Space Shuttle missions (STS-87, STS-107), specializing in robotic operations and aerodynamics research. We will celebrate Kalpana’s successes and learn about her achievements.
Science Week
Throughout the week beginning Monday 9th March we will be completing our Spring term science units. We will use the learning from these units to display across the school, we will be able to share this with families during Parent’s Evening.
Parent’s Evening
Please sign up for parent’s evening on Tuesday 10th March or Thursday 12th March. We would like families to bring children with them to look at the science learning, their books in class and to talk about their learning this year. We will also have some school meals availble to taste in the community kitchen. We hope to see you there!
