Year 5 and Gainsborough Choir at the Hackney Music Gala
Year 5 and our school choir were invited to sing in the Hackney Music Gala at Hackney Empire on Tuesday 20th January. The Gala showcased talent from across the borough, bringing musicians and singers together to celebrate talent across our schools. Gainsborough has a long standing reputation for it’s incredible talents in singing, we have showcased this at Music Festival held at the Round Chapel annually and it was a pleasure to be asked to support a mass singing event at this year’s music gala. We joined the Hackney Borough Youth Choir and Berger Primary School to sing ‘Wonderwall’ and ‘There’s a River.’ We also got to see some incredibly talented musicians for the secondary schools in Hackney. A huge thank you Ms Lewis and Mr Little for making this happen and supporting the children so well on 2 after school trips!
Hackney Wick Town Hall
We hosted the Hackney Wick Town Hall meeting last Wednesday. The Town Hall is an open meeting made up of members of the local community. This group is working together to bring change to the community and make suggestions to improve the infrastructure, link with community groups, connect organisations and build a community that has a say in the local area. We had residents from Fish Island, Hackney Wick and business owners from across the area. Hackney Councillors also were in attendance and a major part of the discussion was about whether we have the resources and infrastructure we need in Hackney Wick with all of the recent developments. We would love more Gainsborough families to attend this open meeting and put across their views. Watch out for the next Town Hall.
National Day of Reading
Children across Gainsborough shared the joy of reading together on Friday. Our older classes read with our younger children, showcasing their expression, intonation and story telling skills, while our younger children were inspired by their reading ability they showed great listening and questioning skills. Well done Gainsborough.
Food Strategy Update
Please complete the parent questionnaire sent to you today. We are gathering your views on food at Gainsborough and how we build a healthier community. We want to know what your needs and wants are, what you like to eat and how we can work together. Please complete by Monday 2nd February.
TT Rockstars Battle
Children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 were challenged to a TT Rockstars battle against Ms Carhart this week. Ms Carhart triumphed and beat the children at Gainsborough this week, however 2 children did manage to beat her as individual players: Lola and Pawal from Year 5. Ms Carhart has decided to stick her winning reign and continue to challenge the children this week. Will any of the children be able to beat Ms Carhart in this week’s battle?

Year 1 will be out and about in Hackney Wick next week interviewing local people about their jobs and what they do in our community. They will visit Reverend Sue at St Mary of Eton, Alpesh at the Refill shop and a few more. Thank you Gainsborough community.
PE kit Reminder
We would like to remind families on PE days your child is invited to wear their PE kit to school. This saves time and supports children to access longer, more effective PE lessons. Please ensure your child is in school PE kits and not other clothes. The school PE kit is a white t shirt, blue/ black leggings or jogging bottoms, black trainers and their school jumper or cardigan. The school PE kit is not other tracksuits and brightly coloured trainers. We will speak to children and families over the coming weeks about ensuring children come in uniform each day, particularly on PE days.
Punctuality Reminder
We would like to kindly remind you that our daily reading lessons take place from 9:00–10:00am, and it is very important that children arrive at school on time so they do not miss this essential learning. Reading is the foundation for accessing the whole curriculum. When children can read fluently, they are better able to understand instructions, enjoy stories and texts, and take part confidently in lessons across all subjects, including maths, science, and topic work. Regular attendance at reading sessions also has a big impact on children’s confidence, motivation, and enjoyment of learning. Children who miss the start of the day often find it harder to settle in and can feel discouraged if they fall behind their peers. We really appreciate your continued support in helping your child arrive on time each day so they can make the most of this important learning opportunity.
