This week at Gainsborough…
Autumn 2
This academic year we will be focusing on:
Improving school punctuality and attendance
Launching a school food initiative
Striving towards being a more sustainable organisation
Improve our academic outcomes for pupils at statutory checkpoints
Maths Week
We had a very low key awareness raising Maths Week, supported by Maths Week England. The children were introduced to a range of maths games to promote how they use maths and enjoy it! We introduced Year 1 to Uno, which they loved. We introduced Years 2-6 to games using Match Attack cards we had been gifted. The children have been asked to create maths games at home, let’s see what they come up with!
Run Kids Run- Sunday 16th November
We were blown away with the support we had for Run Gainsborough Run this year. Well done to all of the runners, supporters and organisers. Gainsborough is a community school and at its heart is our community spirit, we hope you enjoyed. We have some incredible runners at Gainsborough: a special mention to Rukia from Year 2 who ran her own race in the Years 1 and 2 group, then also ran the Year 5 and 6 laps to support her friends, and because she loves to run! Well done Rukia, we think you are amazing.
Biker’s Breakfast
Thank you to year 3 who organised and promoted a biker’s breakfast with Frankenbike https://frankenbike.cc/, the bike shop of Felstead Street. Thank you to the team at Frankenbike who repaired and checked bikes on Friday. We are grateful for your time and kindness.
Year 1 Young V and A
Year 1 visited the Young V and A last week. They saw toys from the past to support their learning in history. They were blown away by how simple some of the toys were and how many we still have today. Well done Year 1.
Year 6 Breaking Conventions
Children from Year 6 revisited Academy Breaking Conventions to see a current text they have been reading brought to life. The students from the Academy wrote and performed a piece based on the text Private Peaceful, by Micheal Morpurgo, that Year 6 have been studying in reading and writing lessons. The children were in awe of the dancers, their ideas and how they brought the piece to life. We hope to build more partnerships with ABC over the coming year, it was fantastic to see how the young adults interacting with our year 6 children and brought out the best in them in the workshops and sessions. Thank you ABC.

Children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 were challenged to a TT Rockstars battle against Ms Lewis. Ms Lewis reamains undefeated in her now 3rd week of TT Rockstars battles, despite great scores! Will any of the children be able to beat Ms Lewis in this week’s timestable battle?

Colleagues from UCL are coming to interview and film our staff and children, watch this space to hear about our successes and challenges.
