This week at Gainsborough…
Autumn 1
This academic year we will be focusing on:
Improving school punctuality and attendance
Launching a school food initiative
Striving towards being a more sustainable organisation
Improve our academic outcomes for pupils at statutory checkpoints.
Year 6 trip to the Imperial War Museum
Year 6 visited the Imperial War Museum on Friday. They looked at artifacts from world war 1. They visited exhibitions showcasing the war from individuals perspectives and considered the impact of the war on the world today.
National Recycling Week
This week we considered National Recycling Week. School council worked with classes to agree 10 recycling commitments in each if their classes. For homework children in Years 1 -6 are considering 5 recycling commitments they can make at home. We will then compile a Gainsborough recycling commitment using everyone’s ideas. School council are going to make a song and a video to raise awareness of our commitment to recycling and the importance of it for our planet! Please help by working on your recycling commitment at home!
Forest School restart for Reception and Nursery
Nursery and reception children restarted Forest school sessions this week. Each week our children walk to Wick Woodland to take part on our forest school sessions. The children develop independence, connect with nature, explore the forest, create art and use natural objects to play with. There is also hot chocolate, songs and lots of great games to keep everyone happy. Attending a Forest School session every week is only possible with the support of our families who come along to the sessions. Thank you to all of the family members past and present who support us with Forest School.
Can you beat Mr Little?
Children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 were challenged to a TT Rockstars battle against Mr Little last week. 3 children scored enough points to beat Mr Little, well done to Latina, Year 6, Richelle Year 5 and Micheal- Pius in Year 3, who all scored more then Mr Little. However, the overall average score for all the pupils versus Mr Little meant that he came out as the overall winner! Well done Mr Little, beating over 120 children is a great achievement. The children wanted one more opportunity to take him off the TT Rockstars Main Stage, so let’s see if they can take advantage of a second opportunity to beat him.
Reading Plus top 30 Place for Gainsborough
We have achieved great success this September with being named as one of the top 30 schools in the country on Reading Plus for the average in the star reading assessment. Our children in years 3, 4, 5, 6 have read a huge amount on our online reading app. Children have shared the good habits they have got into to complete their allocated reading: reading on the bus in the morning, reading at bed time, reading after school while they wait for dinner and reading in breakfast club and after school clubs. At Gainsborough we want all children to be avid readers, enjoy reading and talk about reading. Please support your child by reading with them at home, helping them allocate ‘quiet time’ in their day to read and rewarding them for reading.
Reader of the Week
Each week we will award one child from Years 1-6 with a new book, as the Reader of the Week. The award is for commitment, reading progress, engagement or sharing their love for reading. Please support your child with reading at home! After all, reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.

Holidays During Term Time
If you took time off school for a holiday or to travel last academic year we will be inviting you in to discuss the impact of this.
Holiday’s during term time are not permitted in any school, and Gainsborough is the same. In our scheduled meeting we will discuss the holidays taken with families and consider ways they can manage this year without taking further time out of school.
We ask that all families strive to be at school everyday so that we can best meet the children’s well-being and academic needs.
